What is the relation between language and the understanding of the world, or rather between semiotic languages and our perception of our environment? These are the questions my fellow student and I asked ourselves for our joint diploma project.
One idea that stuck with us was Youri Lotman’s concept of “the semiosphere”, in which languages meet and interact with each other. As the idea includes a significant spatial component, we decided to add a dimension and build a sphere. This is the sketch we made beforehand.
Folded, the poster fits into the fold on the back of “Nukleus & Peripherie” and serves as a link to the third part of our diploma.
700 × 1000 mm, offset print, silver on black/white paper. 2019. In collaboration with Erika Mai. ♥
